Google Goggles Marketing Experiment

Take a picture of an image, and with Google’s stellar image recognition technology found in the Google Goggles app, Google returns relevant search results when a picture of an image is taken – connecting the offline world of advertising and marketing with the online world. Right now, companies like T-Mobile, Diageo, Buick, Disney and Delta are participating in such campaigns that are designed to create a new experience for consumers

From the perspective of the marketer, taking pictures that align with search engine-index results gets consumers more involved and thinking about what you have to offer. This creates a deeper, richer experience with brands.

And, just like so many other marketing tactics these days, mobile is the one common thread that ties everything together.

The image recognition technology that Goggles uses faciliates search and makes it possible to identify objects such as landmarks and art work and produce relevant search on Google’s massive data bases to identify virtually anything.

The system is able to identify various packaging labels, signs, artwork and landmarks. This enables users to learn without needing a text-based search.
