Differentiation Strategy and Advantage

How do you set yourself apart from other companies? In the end, your prospective customers do not care so much about what your company does, but rather what you can do for them.

Differentiation is THE top factor in standing apart from the crowd. Your company is decidedly unique and has something that sets them apart. What is your company’s differentiation strategy? Why would a customer want to engage with you instead of Company B?

Your prices are likely on par with rest. But when people have to choose between going to your company or your competitor, who do they choose?

But how do you get the word out there about what sets you apart? Answer: social media. With social media, you’re able to create an ongoing relationship with your market where you check in daily (or sometimes multiple times daily) to let them know what’s going on, where you stand, if there are sales or specials for that day or week — or best of all to give them a tip or a access to an information product….for FREE.

By framing the result that you will create for your clients, you make your offering clearer, more compelling and – most importantly – more relevant. Create competitive separation on purpose — not randomly.

“Innovation for differentiation. The object is to get separation from the competitive set in order to gain bargaining power.” ~ Geoffrey Moore

The most notable example is Apple. Apple created something that the consumer wanted and placed it in front of their market. There is no reason for any company not to achieve differentiation at some scale, and making this information available to people is the first step in attracting ideal customers and clients to your business.
